Randy Smith
Randy leads the commercial function across the Xodus group. He brings fourteen years of experience in African finance, having mobilized more than $1 billion in private capital and managed $1.1 billion in investment programming across Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Mozambique.
He joined Xodus from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), where he served as a tenured Foreign Service Officer in the Private Enterprise Officer cadre, the career track responsible for mobilizing private capital and structuring transactions in markets institutional lenders find hardest to price.
He closed four credit guarantees with second-tier Rwandan banks alongside the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, structured a $25 million SME facility that leveraged 2.6 times its size in private bank financing, and supported a $500 million facility backing Vodacom's entry into Ethiopia.
At Xodus, he owns the commercial agenda, spanning capital formation across debt and equity, funder, lender, and guarantor relationships, and the growth and commercial performance of the group's consumer lending business. He holds an MBA in Finance and an MSc in Applied Econometrics from American University, and is fluent in Portuguese.
